Dreadful Lightning

Some crazy sideways lightning over a mountain in Carefree, AZ

I’m terrified of lightning.
Not because its sound is frightening,
But because it makes me feel uneasy.
It fills my being with paranoia and anxiety.

Every time it occurs,
I hide behind the covers.
I chicken out as soon as it strikes.
I quickly aim to turn on the light.

Why? Because it is not safe in the dark.
Something evil follows.
It hides and stalks you as it lurks.
It gets closer as you venture into the shadows.

Only the flash of lightning can reveal it.
As you walk into the dark,
You’ll see more than two shadows when the lightning sparks.
That’s when you’ll know that you have to hit the light switch.
